Principal's Letter

Welcome to Grand Prairie where we celebrate your child in a student-centered environment dedicated to your child achieving his or her maximum individual potential academically and socially.

Academically, our staff is committed to implementing currently researched-based instructional practices in all content areas. We utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that our students have mastered the skills taught and are able to apply that knowledge successfully. Per state law, the universal screener assessments occur three times a year, Fall, Winter and Spring. These benchmark assessments allow the staff to look at the current levels of performance of the school as a whole but also utilize these assessments to inform their classroom and individual instruction. The analyzation of all data is a priority for staff who are dedicated to a continuous improvement effort!

Socially, your child will continue to have many opportunities to understand and internalize positive character traits. We expose children to Character Counts with Respect as the umbrella. We are working with visuals that show “THINK before you Speak” and “THINK before you Act” which asks students and adults to continually reflect on their choice of wording and actions. Specific wording is attached to the THINK. For example, in “THINK before you Speak,” students reflect on whether their words were True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind. Students are also exposed to Social thinking/language groups where they work on "whole body listening, "expected vs. unexpected" actions, and "voice volume" with the help of their teacher, social worker, and speech pathologists in the classroom setting. The Grand Prairie staff works collaboratively within the school to utilize the staffs’ outstanding collective knowledge base regarding the PreK-2 learner.

It is our belief that children grow and develop to their highest potential when a strong relationship is built between the home and school. Our home school connection goal is one of mutual respect and support as we work together in providing opportunities for student success. Our focus remains aligned to our district mission “to prepare students to be confident, life-long learners and productive citizens by challenging them to reach their fullest potential and by providing a quality educational environment in partnership with family and community.”

Looking forward to a wonderful year of learning!.

Respectfully,
