Core Expectations

Chelsea implements the Character Counts program at each grade level throughout the school year. Character Counts is the nation's most widely used character education program, being used in various schools, sports, and civic organizations. The framework of this program is built on the "Six Pillars of Character." Those pillars are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Though all six pillars are utilized throughout the school year, we have narrowed our focus to three core expectations for all Chelsea students: respect, responsibility, and caring. These expectations are reinforced on a daily basis, and are used by all students and staff members to define appropriate behavior at Chelsea School.

Students who demonstrate one (or more) of our core expectations may be rewarded with a tiger stripe. Tiger stripe earners are rewarded with a small prize, have their photos displayed in the “Earn Your Stripes” display case, and are invited to submit their stripe into a monthly raffle.

Raffle winners may enjoy rewards such as extra recess, lunch with the principal or assistant principal, computer time, or the opportunity to be an office helper. In addition, eight tiger stripe earners per grade level are selected to be student ambassadors each month. These ambassadors play an important role, as they are responsible for providing Dr. Nepote and Ms. Newcomb with feedback as to how each grade level is meeting the core expectations, and collaborate in planning bimonthly Tiger Talks for each grade level team.

Our Chelsea Tigers earn their stripes when they demonstrate our core expectations of respect, responsibility and caring!
