|Teacher Jennifer Elia - Second Grade (Send e-mail)|
Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview.
The building social workers will be presenting this information to our students.
This week: CCSS R.L. 2.5- I can describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.
Each guided reading group has been given a chapter book at or near their reading level. We will be reading, discussing and applying standards each time we meet as a group. If the book comes home, please reread and discuss story elements with your child.
CCSS RI 2.1-Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of key details in a nonfiction text.

We will begin a unit on bats next week to coincide with our standard R.I. 2.1. as well as our quarter one writing and research.
We will conclude this unit with a live bat presentation on Nov. 2nd. More information on this will be coming home,
CCSS W2.2 Writing

October reading response journals were sent home. Your child is expected to read a book and follow the response page in the front of the journal. They will all month to complete. Please return the journal by the end of the month. I will review them, and attach the November response. Since they have all month, I am hoping that they will do their very best work.
