Teacher Info

Teacher Katrina Hyland - First Grade  (Send e-mail)

I am excited to be your child's teacher this year. Below is some information that will be helpful throughout the year.

Grand Prairie School runs off of a TIGER schedule. Our specials are not on a set day of the week, but instead are on an assigned T-I-G-E-R day. Grand Prairie office has a Tiger calendar if you need one. Below are our assigned days for specials.

T-Art
I- Technology
G-Music
E-Library
R-No Special

We have 30 minutes of P.E. everyday. Please make sure your child had appropriate shoes.

Daily Homework- Each student has a purple fluency bag. In the bag there will be familiar books, a words their way list, and occasionally a math activity. These should be practiced nightly. Also, every Wednesday students should turn in their writing spiral with a new writing entry.

I will email you every Friday with a newsletter. This newsletter will let you know what is going on in the classroom. You will know what your child is learning. You will also learn about special events for our class.

Here are some additional things to do at home with your child.
• Raz-kids-great for comprehension as well! Use this link and find your kid’s name. www.kidsa-z.com/login/khylandc
• www.xtramath.org Math Facts from home

As you know, we are required by the new Erin's Law to provide lessons on sexual abuse and prevention education. In October Grand Prairie Elementary School Social Workers will be coming into our classroom to talk about the "Think First and Stay Safe" program. The lessons will cover the concepts of "Using My Built In Computer: Staying Healthy and Safe". In December, the second and final lesson, will be on "Laws Help Protect Me: Kids Have Rights Too!" and "Listening to My Instincts: No Secrets".

Should your child have any questions, you may refer to the handout that will be provided to them on the day of the lesson. If you have additional questions feel free to contact a School Social Worker – Morgan Bilthuis, Nichole Reiser, and Maribeth Fagan.
