Fact practice daily is highly beneficial for the children. There are several addition fact strategies that you can use to help your student at home.

1. Zero Property-
When adding zero to a number, it does not change the value. There are 19 zero facts.
(a+0)=a and (0+a)=a

2. Doubles-
Doubles occur everywhere in life.
For example: an egg carton is 6 + 6 =12
Most people have 5 fingers on each hand 5=5=10
Two weeks 7+7=14
Box of 16 crayons, 2 rows of 8
8+8=16
Insect has 3 legs on each side
3+3=6
Octopus has 4 legs on each side 4+4=8 octo means 8

3. Doubles +1 -

There are 18 facts.
0+1 1+0 1+2 2+1 2+3 3+2 3+4 4+3 4+5 5+4 5+6 6+5 6+7 7+6 7+8 8+7 8+9 9+8
Double the smaller addend and count-on one more.
For example 6+7 double 6,
6+6=12 +1+13 so 6+7=13

4. Doubles +2 there are 16 facts.
0+2 2+0 1+3 3+1 2+4 4+2 3+5 5+3 4+6 6+4 5+7 7+5 6+8 8+6 7+9 9+7
When numbers are 2 apart, take the number in the middle and double it.
For example: 5+7, the number in the middle is 6, double it
6+6=12 so 5+7=12

5. Counting On-There are 43 counting-on facts.
Adding 1 - Adding one means saying the larger number, then jumping up one number, or counting up one number.
Example : 7 + 1 = say 7 then 8
Adding 2 - Adding Two - Adding two means saying the larger number, then jumping up or counting up twice.
Example: 8 + 2 = say 8 then 9 then 10
Adding 3 - Adding three means saying the larger number, then jumping up or counting up three times.
Example: 9 + 3 = say 9 then 10 then 11 then 12

6. Commutative Property - The answer will be the same regardless of the order you add the two numbers.
3 + 2 = 5 and 2 + 3 = 5 Order doesn’t matter. This is also known as the turn-around facts.

7. Complements of Ten – Ten is a benchmark in our number system and is vital in working with numbers of all sizes. The ten frame is a powerful visual aid to introduce the complements of ten.

8. "9's Trick" - Adding “9” trick – Whatever number you are adding to 9, take one less than that number and put a one in front of it. For example: 6+9, one less than 6 (or the number before it) which is 5 and put a 1 in front of it to make 15. So, 6+9=15. Also, the two digits of the sum 15, 1+5=6, the number we added to “9”.
