Hello Second Grade Families! This webpage will give you information about curriculum, upcoming events, important dates, and links to various websites. Every week I will be posting the class newsletter and other important documents.
We have 25 students in our classroom. 11 boys and 14 girls.
Here is the specials schedule:
P.E. daily 10:15-10:45 with Mr. Seibert
Tiger Scheduled Specials:
T Day: library and technology
I Day: music
E Day: art
As you know, we are required by the new Erin's Law to provide lessons on sexual abuse and prevention education. In October Grand Prairie Elementary School Social Workers will be coming into our classroom to talk about the "Think First and Stay Safe" program. The lessons will cover the concepts of "Using My Built In Computer: Staying Healthy and Safe". In December, the second and final lesson, will be on "Laws Help Protect Me: Kids Have Rights Too!" and "Listening to My Instincts: No Secrets".
Should your child have any questions, you may refer to the handout that will be provided to them on the day of the lesson. If you have additional questions feel free to contact a School Social Worker – Morgan Bilthuis, Nichole Reiser, and Maribeth Fagan.
I can statements for the week:
Reading–I can use illustrations and text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting or plot.
I can determine the meaning of unknown words.
Writing– I can write an opinion piece (letter) which introduces the book, states an opinion, includes reasons that support the opinion and a concluding statement.
Math– I can use addition and subtraction strategies within 100 to solve one and two step problems.
I can mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number.
I can explain why addition and subtraction strategies work.
Due to privacy laws, we ask that you only take pictures of your own child when you are here at school. Please respect the privacy of those families that wish not to have their children photographed. We realize that capturing those memories are important and we truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding of this policy.
