8th Grade Team 8A Math
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Third quarter we have challenged the students to move at least 3% on Khan Academy each week. Khan Academy is a great support for all subject areas but we are using it primarily for math. If the students reach their goal, they are presented with a ticket that allows them a chance to pie one of their teachers on “PIE DAY” March 14th (3.14). Since this is such a valuable tool, we hope students take advantage of it at home too. I have attached a getting started parent guide for you to assist your child in getting on at home and for you to monitor their progress along with me.
The students spend about 40 minutes at school, during advisory, on Khan. We are asking that students try to spend any extra 20 minutes at home or enough time to move 3% each week. Pie day should be an exciting one as we will allow the students to bring in pies, pie their teachers and administrators and celebrate how much they have learned in math this year. We are going to offer another pie your teacher day in April too.
Lastly, National Junior Honors Society will be offering tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-3:15pm. Any student can attend and get homework help or review for a test or quiz during this time. The students have to bring something to work on in order to attend. The library is open every day before school from 7:00-7:40am and after school from 2:15-3:30pm. Any student that needs a quiet place to work can always start in the HCMS library.
