Welcome to our classroom webpage!
Each week I will provide you with a preview of the curriculum for the week ahead. I will also include tentative dates for tests and project due dates.
PARCC testing will occur in the month of April. Our schedule is listed here, as well in the important dates section of my webpage. We will be working to prepare for these tests, but please remind your child, as I remind them as well, to just do their best and that will always be enough. At school, we will continue to work hard so that students feel confident in their abilities, and there are practice tests online as well. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Curriculum Preview for the week of April 10, 2017:
ELA: We have begun our new unit on Heroes. We will be focusing on Greek mythology and heroes as we work towards reading our next novel, The Lightning Thief. We will also be looking at real life heroes and how they impact society. As we read our focuses will be on main idea/detail, characters, setting and summarizing.
Make sure to read 20 minutes a night with a book of your choice! :) Our bucket list challenge is in progress. Paperwork went home explaining how it works, please feel free to contact me with any concerns!
Math: We have begun our 10th unit on Algebra. This week we will look at equal and unequal equations and continue to solve for the unknown in equations.
Writing: This quarter we will be working on a narrative piece. It will be a fictional story in which students will create their characters and develop a plot with a conflict and resolution.
Social Studies: We will be looking at our final region of the year...the West!
Science: We are looking at the senses of animals and how they work and are used for survival.

Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview.
The building social workers will be presenting this information to our students during the weeks of November 7th and November14th. A second presentation will follow in January during the weeks of January 9th and January 16th.
