Curriculum Preview for the week of May 29, 2017:

ELA: We are in our Heroes unit and reading a lot of mythology and other stories of heroes. As we read our focuses will be on main idea/detail, characters, setting and summarizing. We are using the Lightening Thief as our novel study this quarter to identify these different story features.

Make sure to read 20 minutes a night with a book of your choice! :) Our bucket list challenge is in progress. Paperwork went home explaining how it works, please feel free to contact me with any concerns!

This quarter students are reading books and writing a summary for a reward! There will be no project due this quarter.

Math: This week we are wrapping up our three dimension geometry cities, that students planned, organized and built! :)

Writing: This quarter we will be working on a narrative piece. It will be a fictional story in which students will create their characters and develop a plot with a conflict and resolution.

Social Studies: Our culmination of our Social Studies units will be our state float parade. The parade will be on Tuesday morning! The floats look great! :)

Science: We have been studying sound and how it travels.

S.T.E.M.
What is it? It is an acronym that refers to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Learning is collaborative and project-based. Our students will be given the opportunity to attend this class on a weekly basis with Mrs. Jozaitis as their instructor. The following fourth grade projects are planned for this school year:

Quarter 1: Catapults
Quarter 2: Wind Generation
Quarter 3: Prop Racer
Quarter 4: Ray Catcher

We started using the Front Row website in our classroom for extra math and reading practice.

The website is www.frontrowed.com.
The students will use their first name and their classroom number as their last name.
Our classroom code: o4rcm5

Our online ordering code for Scholastic is MD247

Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview.
The building social workers will be presenting this information to our students during the weeks of November 7th and November14th. A second presentation will follow in January during the weeks of January 9th and January 16th.
