LITERACY NIGHT 2018
Save the Date: We will be having a Literacy Night on Wednesday, October 17th from 5:30 to 7 PM with the theme "Enchanted Forest." The FSP will also be sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair that evening.

**Note from the Library**

Parents,
I am looking for volunteers in the Library to assist with re-shelving/organizing books. Additionally, during 'Check In' times, volunteers may be asked to help some students in find where their books should be placed on the shelves.

Any amount of time would be greatly appreciated!

If interested, parents/guardians can contact me at ncanny@fsd157c.org.

Thank you!
Nicole Canny, Librarian

Curriculum preview for the week of October 15, 2018:

ELA: This week we are focusing more on the fictional accounts of immigration and New Beginnings. With this new focus we will be looking at character traits, plot, setting and theme this week.

The quarter one unit is all about "New Beginnings" This unit will focus on the perspective of people who have immigrated in the United States. We look at the perspective of these immigrants from the 1900's up until modern immigrants. During this unit we will be reading the novel "The Orphan of Ellis Island" and the nonfiction book, "If Your Name Was Changed at Ellis Island."

This quarter we will be focusing on such skills as identifying main idea/detail, summarizing, context clues, along with many others. This week we will begin with looking for main idea and detail.

Math: We will continue our 3rd module in Eureka this week, which covers multiplication and division. These week we will cover lessons 5-9, which introduces concepts of multiplication and division.

I encourage students to go on Zearn at home for reinforcement of the lessons we work on at school.

Writing: Students will continue their Informational writing essay.

Science: We are going to continue looking at the rock cycle and Earth's layers.

Please check back here often for important dates, announcements, and a preview of curriculum for the week.
