QUARTER 1 CURRICULUM OUTLOOK:
MATH- Grade 4 Module 3: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division
In this 43-day module, students use place value understanding and visual representations to solve multiplication and division problems with multi-digit numbers. As a key area of focus for Grade 4, this module moves slowly but comprehensively to develop students’ ability to reason about the methods and models chosen to solve problems with multi-digit factors and dividends.
Math HW Help: Duane Habecker on YouTube is a great resource. Search for 4th Grade Module # and Lesson #. He will review/model homework problems.
ADVANCED ELA- Our first unit is focused around stories of New Beginnings. We will read texts featuring immigrants from all over the world as we consider the impact new beginnings have on our society and our perspectives. The core novel will be "The Orphan of Ellis Island" alongside the informational text "If Your Name was Changed at Ellis Island." Our Ad-ELA text is "Esperanza Rising."
In writing, we will focus on informational writing while researching natural disasters. In word study, we will discover the meaning of various Greek and Latin roots.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES- We will begin studying the Northeast Region of the United States in Social Studies. We will also learn about the Earth's systems in Science.
