Learning Targets for the Week of October 15-19:

ELA:
We will be wrapping up our extended text, Ungifted, and our read aloud, Schooled, this week. The students have done a great job interacting with both texts. They will be working on creating a Flipgrid project using the characters from both stories. We will also work on identifying connections and relationships between ideas with nonfiction texts and take our nonfiction summative assessments at the end of the week.

Writer's Workshop:
We have started a new writing unit, Prose Constructed Response. The students will be working with writing prompts and responding to fictional stories. They will learn how to understand what the prompt is asking them to do, track the main character throughout the story, and identify the big ideas before responding to the prompt.

Math:
We are almost to the halfway point of Module 2. The students have been doing a great job multiplying decimal fractions and whole numbers together. We will be starting the mid-module at the end of this week. Please refer to the study guide that your child brought home on Monday. Completing Zearn and keeping pace with the lessons that we complete in class is very beneficial to your child's success. Your child should complete Zearn lesson 15 by Friday.

Science (Michalski's students):
Last week, we started talking about physical and chemical changes and work on identifying the differences. The students worked on an experiment with hydrogen peroxide and yeast. We will wrap up this experiment by debriefing what happened and then we will prep our next experiment that involves baking soda, vinegar, and a balloon.
