Learning Targets for the Week of September 24-28:

We are at the midpoint of the quarter and our Adaptation Unit. We continue to have great discussions about Cap from our read aloud "Schooled" and Donovan from our extended text "Ungifted." The students have been making great connections between the two novels. The students did a great job on their Figurative Language and Theme PowerPoints last week. We will work on writing strong summaries with fiction stories and nonfiction texts this week.

Writer's Workshop:
We are approaching the end of our first unit, Narrative Writing. The students have 2-3 completed stories on OneNote. I encourage you to have your child login at home and share their stories with you. I will be grading their most recent narrative story to use as their first major writing grade. The students will work on writing one final narrative over these next two weeks.

We have finished Module 1! The students finished their end-module assessment on Friday so these will be coming home by the end of this upcoming week. We will start Module 2 on Monday. I encourage your child to start working on Zearn to continue practicing these skills at home.

We have two more days of Science before my homeroom will switch to Mrs. Michalski's class to learn Social Studies. We will be engaged in one final experiment exploring chemical reactions. This one should be the best one yet!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Beginning the week of August 27th students in my class will participate in benchmark screenings provided by Fast Bridge Learning. Fast Bridge is District 157-Cís universal screening instrument. This assessment will be administered in the fall, winter and spring to help teachers determine which students are likely to meet the end of the year learning goals, which students may require intervention and help to determine advanced and honors placements for the following school year. This computer based assessment measures performance in reading and math. Individual fall results will be sent home at the beginning of October after all students have been tested. I look forward to working with your child this school year.

Mr. Kraatz

I am looking for volunteers in the Library to assist with re-shelving/organizing books. Additionally, during 'Check In' times, volunteers may be asked to help some students in find where their books should be placed on the shelves.

Any amount of time would be greatly appreciated!

If interested, parents/guardians can contact me at

Thank you!
Nicole Canny, Librarian
