Learning Targets for the Week of January 22-January 25:

ELA:
This week, we will be starting Quarter 3 skills by explaining connections and relationships between two or more individuals. We will be reading some informational articles are Harriet Tubman and Helen Keller and explain the relationships they had with other people. We will also be starting our next novel, Walk Two Moons. The students will be having nightly reading homework aligned with this text.

Writer's Workshop:
We have started our next unit, Argumentative Writing. This unit is unique because it allows the students to choose a "hot topic" and select a position. Then, they will research evidence to defend their position while also acknowledging the other position.

Math:
We are approaching the midpoint of Module 4. The students have been doing great multiplying and dividing fractions. We will be taking our mid-module assessment this Friday. A study guide with problems to review from your child's workbook will be coming home Tuesday. I encourage your child to spend 10-15 minutes each night studying for the upcoming test.

Science:
Quarter 3 science will begin for my homeroom kids! This quarter focuses on the water cycle and water conservation. We will be examining different ecosystems along with our own water usage at home.

Erin's Law:
Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview. Erin's law curriculum will be presented to our students during the week of January 22, 2019.
