Amy Venable - Fourth Grade  (Send e-mail)

Welcome back!
Almost there! We have a lot of fun end of the year projects and activities these next few weeks. Please remind your child that our behavior should match the same level that we have demonstrated throughout the rest of the school year.
Also, our class color for tug of war will be camouflage- so pull out the green, brown or pink camo so we can be united in this fun fourth grade challenge!
The fourth quarter bucket list challenge is underway. Please be sure that your student is reading age appropriate books and filling out the summary sheets completely. If there are any questions, please ask!

ELA: We have begun our final ELA unit, "Heroes." We will focus on character, setting, context clues, and summarizing. We will also focus on main ideas and details. We will look at Greek myths and read the novel, The Lightning Thief.

Math: We have started our new curriculum, Eureka Math. A supplement computer based support is Zearn. I trained the students on Friday and gave them passwords and our class code. I encourage you and them to check out this great math curriculum throughout the summer to maintain 4th grade skills. I will not be testing students on this new curriculum, so please be patient with the homework this week.

Writing: We are working on Narrative Fiction in writing. Students are developing a realistic narrative essay through careful character development and story arcs.

Social Studies: We will make our floats on Wednesday, May 24. Please have the materials at school on Monday so that we can get organized!

Science:
We will continue with senses.

Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview.
