Curriculum overview for the week of May 22nd, 2017:

ELA: We are working with our fourth quarter unit, Heroes. Over the next few weeks, we will be using ancient Greek Mythology to study theme and other literary elements! This week we will continue our fourth quarter novel, Percy Jackson. The students are extremely invested in this text! This week, we will continue to look at modern day heroes and discuss what it means to be a hero. We plan to take our final Informational Outcome Assessment this Thursday.

I ask students to continue reading 20 minutes per night to build confidence, fluency and comprehension!

Math: This week we will be working with our newly adopted math program, Eureka! We will be familiarizing ourselves with the structure and vocabulary of this program. Homework will look different however, they will be bringing home "Problem Sets" that directly mirror that day's lesson and that night's homework!

Social Studies: The students will be constructing their state float projects this week with the materials they brought from home.

Science: We will continue to look at animal senses and the specific internal and external adaptations they use to survive.

Writing & Word Study - Our fourth quarter unit is Narrative Writing. We will continue drafting our final piece of published writing for the quarter!

What is STEM? STEM is an acronym that refers to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Learning is collaborative and project-based. Our students will be given the opportunity to attend this class on a weekly basis with Mrs. Jozaitis as their instructor. The following fourth-grade projects are planned for this school year:

Quarter 1: Catapults
Quarter 2: Wind Generation
Quarter 3: Prop Racer
Quarter 4: Ray Catcher

*We use the Front Row web program in our classroom for extra math and reading practice.*
