February 19th 2019
Parents,
Math - We will continue to work through Module 5 in Math. Please work through homework at night. We are getting close to the end of the module. Please be on the lookout for the End of Module work pack for review.
As we continue with the third quarter please remind your child to stay focused and work hard. We need to listen better and limit our talking to a minimum. Talking continues to be a issue lately. Continued talking will result in Mr. Van Talking tickets which may result in a One Minute Reflection. If three One Minute Reflections are given a school detention is issued.
Eureka Math We will currently on Lesson 29 / 30 for Tuesday (Tuesday) Please work on Zearn or Khan to keep on top of skills for fractions..
Continuing to use the Zearn program will for sure prove helpful in this Module. Students may work ahead up to 5 lessons if they would like. I would rather the students be ahead than behind in Zearn. Feel free to visit you tube and search for the current Eureka module and lesson. You will find videos that will guide you on some of the problems from the lesson.
Module Tip sheets can be found in the downloads section of the web page.
New Multiplication games have been added to the cool links below. Please practice those facts if needed

ELA Writing We are working on Narrative skills this quarter. We are focusing on reading the prompt / question that is being asked before we read so we can gather information and make a plan as we read the passage. We will be working with writing in different point of views and continuing the story with our own ending.
The 40 Book Reading Challenge is moving along. This quarter student are required to fill out a mini book report for every book they read. They will also need to pick one book and do a fun project on the book. Projects may include a PowerPoint, Diorama, or even a movie poster. These projects will be discussed this week. Many students are moving along and enjoying the free reading time. Please check in those books and track that reading. Please spend at least 20 minutes each night reading to finish the challenge books throughout the year.
SOCIAL STUDIES The Mid-West region is about finished. We will assess our states, capitals and placement on Thursday the 28th. We are finishing the working pack and reviewing states and capitals and the placement.
SCIENCE We are currently discussing animals and how they use internal and external structures to adapt to their environments. We are also discussing behavioral and body adaptations that help them survive.
