Teacher Info

Amy Melby - Fifth Grade  (Send e-mail)

Welcome to my teacher page. Please check back often for important information. I look forward to an amazing school year:)

BOOK FAIR
The book fair will be here from October 15-19th. A flyer went home earlier this week. My ELA class is scheduled to go on Friday, October 19th from 11:55-12:25. This is the only time we will be going as a class. FYI the book fair will be open on Literacy Night which is Wednesday, October 17th.

LITERACY NIGHT 2018
We will be having a literacy night on Wednesday, October 17th from 5:30 to 7 PM at Chelsea School. The theme is "Enchanted Forest". The FSP will also be sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair that evening. I will be there and I hope you will too:)

Dear Chelsea Families,

For the months of October and November, the Veterans Day
Committee at Chelsea will be selling popsicles to students at
lunchtime. Popsicles will cost $1 and all collected money will
help offset the cost of postage for care packages sent overseas
to our servicemen and servicewomen.

Popsicle sales
will occur on the following dates:
 10-26
 11-30

Please consider helping our troops. Thank you!

Sincerely,
The Chelsea Veterans Committee

JJC PLANETARIUM AND CRONIN SCHOOLHOUSE FIELD TRIP
Students brought home a field trip form today (9/28). The trip will be on Monday, November 5th. Payment is due by October 12th and can be made online or by check payable to Frankfort School District 157-c. A disposable bag lunch and drink will be needed.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS
Each month students will receive a Scholastic Book Club flyer. If you are interested in ordering books, please use our class code to access our class online. Our class code is Q8JND. I love the look on students' faces in the morning when they come to school and see their brand new books on their desks!! If you have any questions or difficulties, please don't hesitate to contact me.

BAND AND ORCHESTRA SECTIONALS
Students who are involved in band or orchestra will be having their sectionals on G days. Please make sure they bring their instruments. Morning sessions will begin after Labor Day.

NO PEANUT PRODUCTS FOR SNACK
Due to several students on our team with peanut/nut allergies, we are insisting that students not bring any snack that has peanut products. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Beginning the week of August 27th students in my class will participate in benchmark screenings provided by Fast Bridge Learning. Fast Bridge is District 157-Cís universal screening instrument. This assessment will be administered in the fall, winter and spring to help teachers determine which students are likely to meet the end of the year learning goals, which students may require intervention and help to determine advanced and honors placements for the following school year. This computer based assessment measures performance in reading and math. Individual fall results will be sent home at the beginning of October after all students have been tested. I look forward to working with your child this school year.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Melby

TECHNOLOGY- 5th Graders are now 1:1 using Lenovo Laptops. Students have received their Microsoft 365 accounts and can login on office.com from home or on anything with internet connection. We will be using technology all throughout our curriculum.

INVITATION REMINDER: We never want to have a child feel left out or have their feelings hurt by not receiving an invitation to a party. Even as adults, we know the emotional hurt from being excluded. This is why we highly discourage the passing out of invitations at school. The only exception is if you are inviting the whole class and the invitations are distributed by your childís teacher. Invitations are never to be distributed by a student or parent. Thank you for your cooperation.
