EARTH DAY DONATION DRIVE
Please consider donating gently used and/or unwanted items on Saturday, April 21st from 9 to 2 PM at the Grand Prairie parking lot. Volunteers will be there to collect the items and load them into a truck. Your donation is tax deductible and you can get a tax receipt.
2018 ILLINOIS SCIENCE ASSESSMENT
Chelsea School will administer the science assessment to all fifth graders. It will be an online format and is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
It is a federally required science assessment for all students in fifth and eighth grades and after taking Biology I at the high school.
My homeroom will be taking this assessment Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 10:15 to 11:30. Please prepare your child the same way you did for PARCC. Getting plenty of rest and providing a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack will enhance your child's concentration. Students will also be allowed to bring gum or mints. Thank you in advance for your support.
Birthdays are celebrated in numerous ways often with gifts, cards, and possibly a party. Please keep the following in mind when considering how to distribute birthday invites.
Invitation Reminder: We never want to have a child feel left out or have their feelings hurt by not receiving an invitation to a party. Even as adults, we know the emotional hurt from being excluded.
This is why we highly discourage the passing out of invitations at school. The only exception is if you are inviting the whole class and the invitations are distributed by your child’s teacher. Invitations are never to be distributed by a student or parent.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Very proud of our class and school for writing letters and gathering care package supplies to support our troops.
Please encourage your child to practice their typing skills on the Typing Instructor link found under Student Resources within the Chelsea Intermediate School web page. These engaging activities will help them learn keyboarding skills that will build speed and accuracy in a fun and challenging way. The students are aware of their user name and password.
Quarter 4 Curriculum:
Module 5 & 6
ELA: Child Labor (Novel- Counting on Grace by Elizabeth Winthrop)
READING AT HOME-
Is reading part of your family's daily routine? Reading is the most important skill because it is the basis for learning throughout the school day. Reading takes practice. Make reading a part of your family's daily routine.
*Read every night with your child or along side your child.
*Ask your child to occasionally read aloud and listen to how they're able to read with fluency-expression, accuracy, rate, phrasing, and punctuation.
*We will be working on reading more fluently in the classroom with weekly goals. What will be your child's goal this week?
E.L.A. READING LOG
*Our fifth grade homework expectation of students is to read a minimum of 80 minutes per week. The students are working on weekly reading goals. Can you exceed the expectation?
This quarter we are focusing on Book Talks. We will be giving presentations live and digitally.
TECHNOLOGY- 5th Graders are now 1:1 using Lenovo Laptops. Students have received their Microsoft 365 accounts and can login on office.com from home or on anything with internet connection. We will be using technology all throughout our curriculum.
We will have PE daily with Mr. Innocenti.
