“The National Blue Ribbon School designation is considered the highest honor a school can achieve. This recognition is a testament to everyone associated with Chelsea Intermediate School and Frankfort School District 157-C schools. The teachers, support staff, administrators, families, and especially the students have demonstrated that commitment and hard work results in high quality student growth and achievement. Likewise, years of strong leadership and dedication from our Board of Education has been paramount to ensuring that the necessary resources and support have been provided for all students who come to learn in all three of our schools,” Superintendent Dr. Doug Wernet said of the National Blue Ribbon School award.
The coveted National Blue Ribbon School award highlights the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
“This recognition affirms what I have always known. Chelsea Intermediate School is a place where learners realize their full potential, and they do so because of the engaging learning experiences provided by a passionate and dedicated staff, a strong partnership with our families, and the support of our FSD 157-C administration and Board of Education,” said Chelsea Principal Rachel Newcomb.
Edith Lutz, President of the Frankfort School District 157-C Board of Education, celebrated this achievement as a product of the entire school community. “It is an honor for Chelsea Elementary School to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon school. This is the second time our school district has been recognized with a National Blue Ribbon School award in the last five years. The achievements and growth of our students happen because of the dedication and support of our teachers, staff, administrators, students, families, and the community,” Lutz said.
Chelsea Intermediate School students and staff will take part in a celebration in the coming weeks and be recognized at the October Board of Education meeting. In addition, representatives from Frankfort School District 157-C and Chelsea will travel to Washington D.C. to accept the National Blue Ribbon School award from the U.S. Department of Education on November 4. Congratulations to Chelsea Intermediate School and Frankfort School District 157-C!
