Word Study/Structured Word Inquiry (SWI): Students will be engaged by using an inquiry-based process that helps them learn new vocabulary and understand how words are connected through their origins, structures, and word parts. Students will analyze words and learn their bases, prefixes, and suffixes. They will explore the history of words and their spelling. Students will create word sums and create a matrix to visually represent findings, such as a family of words that share a base element. It can help students build written language proficiency by identifying patterns and similarities between words.
