Show Transcript
everyone welcome of the 2021-2022 school year thank you for taking the time to watch this I would have a quick slideshow for you guys I'm going to make it as fast as I can we're going to meet the team of fifth grade teachers your child is downstairs and change see across the hall from us as fourth grade as well and misses Court Reading Writing word study this is mrs. Hale who's new this year and mr. rapper mr. Becker teaches math to another group of students at our team and mrs. Hale peaches Ela upstairs Miss Gabriel mrs. Mel B mrs. Jenkins Jenkins mrs. they got mrs. Harris and act like a boy every day our class our team team seagulls from specials from 10:10 to 11:10 and after that we go for snack for 5 to 10 minutes outside our class started with music and then we are going to go to arts and then we're going to go to Spanish and then we here with that much Fast and Furious I say we had the visit and go to remote learning again with knockout what I hope not we would the kids were going to just like they did the kids with me with in my class I utilize one do they still going through teens they click on class notebook they open it and the app browser and that way they're able to write on it I can send them things right from there they don't have to download anything we don't have to upload anything they don't have to submit any it's all right there in real time I can't even see it as they're working on it drawing on it as well so that's nice and I've been showing the kids and how to do this weekly and every week I have something for them within one know whether it is using and math and science to practice so they get used to opening the site and being able to work on it let's say there's a snow day or an inclement weather day we have to go to remote that way we're not we're not you don't have to leave today because it would be able to go right online or let's say we have a child that they would be guitar lessons from mrs. Phillips directly through Jean and I can meet with them for jeans as well if they were having a hard time with the math or anything else whether it be during their specials ordering lunch we have tiger time lately so every Friday from 9:05 to 9:40 we have to do it sandwiches more about conflict resolution in later in the year around January mid-January Tuesday after winter break and teaches the Deer Creek elem really follows the anti-bullying and conflict we have unexpected vs. expected behaviors and I got myself crazy I know what the unexpected in the expected behaviors are so we don't seem to have too many problems with the disrespect or any of the kids they have to be the role models for the third and fourth grade this is the behavior Matrix if you want to come back and read it you can we go from 9:10 to 10:10 and then the direct last band sometimes he'll be able to start Centers before that and then from 10:10 to 11:10 they go to their specials in at 11:10 till about 11:20 they have to come back with me about 11:45 and we work on small group so I'm able to pull kids in small groups while their kids are rotating through centers in the center CCR the exit ticket from the day before it might be word problem that were working out it might be a team games math games of course Zurn also because they're expected to do Zurn daily which is fluency and I'm sorry dezern daily which is the map of the Eureka lesson and then reflect which is the fluids either supposed to be home as homework because they have plenty of time during the day can I get them at 15 minutes Center and they also have when they come in in the morning between unpacking and me collecting notes from students and taking attendance and the pledge and announcements they should be working on CERN 1520 minutes in the morning what's nice also about the small group is that some students when I ask questions within the whole group and I'm happy that this year were able to pull it back at the small table you groups of three to four students and work on just sharpening your skills and maybe there are more confident and it's also a great change of the cats they're able to work with one another to so that's nice to say because one student might have a question the mystery next to him feel confident enough to ask that question we also I said we have the fluency in the word problems and we know they love the problems like you utilize tape diagrams and I know the students some of them have a hard time with them I had a hard time with them at first the first year and then all of sudden so we do utilize tape diagram Austin but as far as drawing other diagrams and pictures I generally if you see your child in the workbook and they're not drawing the picture or drawing the disc drying the place value chart and if they tell you I said they know they're not supposed they are correct the drawing will be the tape diagram we have the repetition of skills with a math struggle is good and that's what I tell them I'm like it is okay everyday if I don't get this I don't understand that you for 5 minutes and then there's an hour goes by you hear that oh I see I get it and probably my favorite part about teaching math to see the light bulb the homework will always reflect their daily lesson and the homework and the problems that book are two different books now so I do encourage the kids to bring both books home they're not big and decide novel that they really should be bringing home so they should be able to carry those home in their back but again within the homework if they can we bring the food back home which is the homework at their Homework Helper page in there and then of course there's always YouTube to recap the Eureka lesson if they don't understand something social studies so if you can tell their children that gone through or social studies be a little bit going to be the same topics the same Concepts. But we're getting away from the textbook and using more outside reading or maybe an article it may be a small book we found that the students read independently we may pull a lesson or two from the text but they won't be carrying that big heavy textbook anymore will do it through OneNote or team counters and Native Americans are explorers weekend colonization again when our focus is going to be independent Independence the Declaration of Independence the founding of our nation basic government within the founding of our nation back and then the Legacy for us today how are we going to what is going on in the past how do we make too much sense from what went on and learning from our mistakes but now in the future they love this first unit right now we started, call me I just took and there's a lot of mixing things all of it is safe we do go through the rules like no she seen anything please do everything they touch obviously is safe and if we go through the rules what you can make someone you shouldn't and they love the ones of course has been eager and baking soda and actually did one with the vinegar and salt that where they have at sea if I could change the color on the penny so they may have been digging for old pennies at home because they were so funny there like oh my goodness oh my God are with two was ancient by opening for me then we go to the watery Planet I'm sorry no we go to spaceship earth moon stars the moon phases Planet watery Planet will be third and fourth weather in the inner tie rod it goes back and forth with ecosystems and biodiversity and how we affect the planet and the animals and it don't you kinda go hand-in-hand so we'll go back and forth Scooby Doo Doo 4 weeks of science 4 to 5 and then when we're done with chemical magic will move right into social studies for the first quarter so you may not see any for a while and social studies and science you'll see him first and Science and you're not going to say anything in social studies and don't be alarmed it's only because we haven't spotted yet so we will have an even amount of grade within there for both reading Mythic Quest will be your read teacher they started with the novel at the weave should of poetry and prose they mix the nonfiction the informational and the literature text together some homework may be assigned in reading but majority of the majority of the time on Friday writing they start with the personal narrative response to reading that was on all year research simulation same thing and we do a lot of that with in social studies too with the research and literary analysis structured wording free third grade they may start with the more basic word Matrix it made dresses fourth grade they build upon it and fifth-grade building upon it as well so they're going to be doing more of the Matrix getting deeper into the words into the word meaning and this is crazy cuz that again so your child construction word inquiry nobody and if you have any questions about that please feel free to reach out to her or reach out to me and I will forward it on to her if you are ever wondering at any time with skills or child learning any great and greatly so so maybe you're trying to see what they're going to do in 6th grade and you want to make sure they're prepared prepared for 6th grade you can go right into your expectations on the fsd157c side and you can click on any grade level will have the ELA broken down by the man and also on this web page or on the FSD site if you were to go to parents and understand if you can find your teeth I update the homework on there if there are important thing but they will send out a reminder field trip or permission slip or anything like that I will always be sending him the remind app if you did not sign from sign up for my remind app just shoot me an email or write a note in their child's assignment notebook or send me a note and I will send home the paperwork again with the code to find out for my remind you every morning remind happening new reminder most of the messages the same and I'm going to stay at my morning group by have gotten different will be under post and I have the reflex when we have the deer contest those rules were on their post and the daily schedule is under post so anything that you need to find out should be under a post somewhere within on my way around her post again always feel free to reach out and I can get you the answer to what you are looking for so we switched you know because we learn from it so do you have in their lockers with the score has actually made it that has a less so it says math and under mat it says everything they need to bring for math I house their headphones with in the bathroom and Ziploc bags so it's one less thing to have to lose in their locker or in their backpack and also how is there are pants if they wanted some and that is fine with me I'm just trying to get rid of some of the enemy have in their lockers or what a more organized and they're more than welcome to come in and out just to grab the things that they need say they needed their headphones and Ela and they forgot to do it at the Regal have a switch for ELA on the bottom of the page is everything they need for ELA so I will say to them when we will stay open that Rachel homework on the board they should be copying it down I checked everyone's assignment notebook the first 2 weeks of school I've stepped back a little bit to see what they can do independently and when children start forgetting their homework or I would say I'll start checking in again what else so I will say it's a good idea to bring home your 60 Buck which is the red book which is the homework but it might be a good idea to bring home the Learned book which is the blue side because that's a problem that we did in class and that usually will mirror what the homework is look like a healthy snack Burda medium I got the food please do whatever your child's going to take out of their lunch other than a Snickers bar if you deem it healthy and if it's a good snack for them that is fine by me. Great a water bottle that can bring it in later or whatever they're putting in their bottles but their homework assignment notebook everyday we have the camper health program that comes later in the year more information about that will follow and then the gear program like that before officer rest well be teaching look at teachers with in the classroom and that's more of the resolution anti-bullying really love it and they love him. How many hours is in 4 minutes . it is in LA or 75% and the formative they're 25% and still so they're some of his formative that we would be there but we would have called quizzes I guess as Mera Pakistan was just had one on top of gave the other day there was good the next day and then for social studies and science it's completely 100% agree with you but everything is going to be waiting do the math homework nightly we love me for that or not problems sometimes it is like I said if we pay had time to start on it in class sometimes it is if you need a little bit more review sometimes I'm going to need them to do all of them majority of the time you're going to certain ones Circle and trust your tile bet those are the ones that are supposed to be circled and they will come in with those complete the next day don't expect them to do everything the last two questions on the homework are usually always ask them to do those are the hardest but they're also the more problems additional homework project Maybe find again you will get notification of this beforehand our team can see I can only speak to we generally don't our project that we do are done in class we may be asked to be brought in come home we may ask that may be a part of it if it's not able to be done in school like they may be there videotaping themselves or they want to make a short movie for ELA for just throwing out ideas might be done at home again there's children that prefer to do it at home and that's fine but we don't believe in sending for the majority of the time 90% of the word will be. Maybe just a portion of pool have to be that you will always get notice of that again I will notify you of that through the remind app it would also be on my homework page hearing that and I keep some of my guys I need the break down cuz I won't remember if I have to do something when I go home by the time I just miss everyone get my car and drive home let the dogs out deal with my own child biting me or not I'm going to forget what I needed to do the night before the next day so I always tell them for the rest of your life first quarter you may start to see the homework notices not necessarily a bad thing like they your child when they come in the morning and then I hold it in my classroom for all of us fifth grade because they don't know they are able to eat lunch in the past you to complete their homework so it's not late and they don't have to do more homework even that night and for my contact information I do not have a Twitter do you want by Sevyn. Org or you can call and get put through to my extension also you can help me through the remind I've gotten a few emails and a few text that way and I apologize if I don't get back to you right away but I don't know what they're worth able to sit down and take a look at my phone at the email will alert you immediately again I hope it's a great year and has are off to a great start the kids are great you guys have been so patient and so wonderful I appreciate all of you if you need to get ahold of me for anything please do not hesitate and hopefully we'll see you have a good one bye bye
