TEAM 7A
Hello Hickory Creek Families! I am one of the two 7th grade Social Studies Teacher at HCMS. I have been in the district for 20 years working in seventh grade. I have taught many years of ELA and Social Studies.

Being a part of the Hickory Creek family is a privilege and I am grateful for the students, and staff, I am surrounded by.

Thank you in advance to all the parents for sending us such amazing individuals. Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time with any questions or concerns. I, myself, am a mother of four, some middle school aged as well. When it comes to 'understanding' those struggles and when communication is needed, I completely understand where my students, and parents, are coming from.
Looking forward to a wonderful school year with your children.

Sincerely, Mrs. Tonia Gatsios

Our communication platform with students will be on Microsoft TEAMS in 7th grade social studies; this includes reminders, important dates, chats, lessons, and more.  We encourage our students to advocate for themselves when they have a concern or question and thank you in advance for the support at home as we together do what is best for our students in making their school year as successful as possible.

Absence: IF your child is absent, the expectation is for the child to select the tab to the right of this labeled "Week at a glance & assignments" to see what was completed in class and what the homework is.  Worksheets are sometimes copied and available in OneNote or Teams which would be noted in the homework section of my "Teacher Page". Hard copies are set aside for absent students to be given when they return.  If students want more information, check the TEAMS Chat page (sometimes I add info there), send me a private chat, or reach out to a friend that was in class. The TEAMS CHAT is great for this because any student in class may be able to answer!  Since we are blocking on some days, the following day your child will be in Science, so he or she needs to stop by my room to touch base and make sure they clearly understood the TEACHER's page - "Week of Work & Homework".  They can see me before school, lunch, or after school.

Parents: Please use power school to periodically check your child's grade and note any missing assignments. All students should be doing this during Advisory on Wednesdays.  If there are three or more missing assignments, I will reach out to you with an e-mail or phone call.  It is also a good idea to check your child's "Team Chats" with me.  I will send the student messages to clarify assignments, collect late work, etc.
